October's latest vertical and horizontal moves in the creative world

Published by

The last week has seen a lot of creative moves, with announcements made from all corners of the globe. Perhaps the biggest announcement was made by video advertising firm TubeMogul, who hired Mauricio Leon, formerly of ZenithOptimedia, as commercial director for Europe. Leon had been leading the commercial team at the Publicis Groupe agency for their “Performics” marketing arm. At TubeMogul, he'll be leading the firm's drive into programmatic marketing. He has 22 years worth of experience in the industry, and has worked for media companies such as ITV, Mediacom, Starcom MediaVest Group and Leo Burnett. Nick Reid, MD of TubeMogul UK, said it's Leon's “Experience, credibility and relationships within the TV and digital industries,” that sealed the deal.” He adds that with Leon on board to drive commercial efforts, they will be able to focus on “Helping brands and agencies leverage programmatic TV.” Leon himself, believes that “Video is an incredibly exciting space to be in,” and feels it’s “On the cusp of showing phenomenal growth over the next 12 months.” He also feels that “People are becoming increasingly receptive and educated about the benefits that programmatic offers, and that can only be positive for advertisers.”

In the independent realm, the digital creative agency Possible recently announced a significant promotion, naming Danielle Trivisonno Hawley as chief creative office of the Americas, a newly-created role within the company. She'll be based out of the Seattle office, but will also be responsible for teams in New York, LA, Cincinnati and Costa Rica. She has been promoted from the role of group creative director, a title under which she was responsible for clients such as Microsoft, HBO, Pepsi, Revlon and Morgans Hotel Group. She also played a major part in a piece of work for Audio, which won the agency a Gold Addy award.

Over at SapientNitro, meanwhile, it transpires that ACD Dan Peters left the agency for a similar role at AKQA in San Francisco. Either agency has yet to comment, but Peters' LinkedIn page marks him as having left Sapient last week, having served as ACD for over two years, working for clients such as McDonald's and Harley Davidson. His departure follows John Carstens, who left SapientNitro Chicago last week and fellow ACD Jordan Polonsky, who is now working as the creative director for Eight Bit Studios, a Chicago-based mobile app development company.

Other big moves announced this week include news that Sophie Schoenburg has joined Pereira & O'Dell Brazil as executive creative director, leaving her 19-year post at AlmapBBDO, where she worked with clients such as Volkswagen, Pepsi and Visa, winning more than 20 Cannes Lions and other awards including D&AD, One Show and El Sol. Sticking with Latin America, it was also announced recently that Hector Fernandez, co-CEO at Publicis Mexico, would be promoted to general creative director for the Latin America region. Fernandez has almost 25 years of experience in the industry at shops such as DDB Needham, Ogilvy & Mather, and BBDO, and has been with Publicis since 2010. At the same time, Alfredo “Rey” Alcquicira has been promoted to general creative director at Publicis Dialog and Publicis Healthcare.
