Experimental artist uses an explosion of neon paint to visualise the sheer speed of new Ferrari

Published by

As an artist who specialises in harnessing science in order to create colourful and unique works of art, Fabian Oefner has used everything from magnetised liquids to exploding balloons, but his latest experiment might be his most impressive yet. At Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello, Italy, Oefner recently used a colourful storm of neon paint in order to create a pure and exciting meditation on the innovative design and blistering speed of the 2015 California T sports car. The 'Art Of Form' video uses neon paint in order to lend a physical component to the automotive physical phenomena created by the new motor. The 'State Of The Art' positioning is also utilised in a bespoke website, which shows the model in action and will feature interviews and exclusive content from Oefner and Ferrari.

Ferrari 2015 California T – State Of The Art

The California T is being marketed as a “Grand Tourer that embodies every element of Ferrari DNA. The car recently made its public debut in Saudi Arabia, where it was officially launched at an exclusive ceremony organised by fast Auto Technic in Jeddah at the Layalaty Hall. Mohammed Raffah, CEO of Fast Auto Technic, said that the California T has their “Special attention,” as they feel the car has “A distinctive personality and sense of individuality.” Wilhelm Hegger, Ferrari sales director for the Middle East and Asia, meanwhile, believes that “With its incredible features, the new California T adds a radical innovation to that honourable tradition of Ferrari California while still retaining the model’s highly renowned versatility.” Oefner's piece, reveals the models innovative beauty in a radical and striking way.

This isn't the first piece of work Oefner has worked with Ferrari. Last month he unveiled his “Disintegrating” series of pieces, which show a variety of luxury cars literally coming apart piece-by-piece. One of the cars involved in the project was a Ferrari 330 P4, the image of which was created from hundreds of individual shots of the dismantled car. The various components of the car were photographed piece by piece in a specific position in order to obtain the illusion of an exploding car, sans the flames and smoke.

A Look Inside The Art Of Form

Oefner says that, for him “Being an artist means understanding the world more clearly.” He is a self-professed “Curious investigator, photographer and artist, whose work moves between the fields of art and science.” His images “Capture in unique and imaginative ways natural phenomena that appear in our daily lives, such as sound waves, centripetal forces, iridescence, or the unique properties of magnetic ferroliquids.” He calls his work an invitation to “Stop for a moment and appreciate the magic that constantly surrounds us."
