Catch the NONOTAK and Wave Studios LED collaboration show: Numbers

Published by

NONOTAK and Wave Studios have teamed up to present a unique exhibition that marries creative sound with technological innovation. NUMBERS is an LED light show and sound project with a difference; namely that it takes numbers, budgets and statistics and converts them into art. Showcased in the front windows of Wave Studios for the first time last Wednesday (August 12), the experiential and experimental project combines the talents of NONOTAK’s Takami Nakamoto and Noemi Schipfer with Wave Studios’ sound designers, whose collaborative track syncs up to create an impressive visual exhibition. The elements of the track were created by the Wave’s sound designers, which NONOTAK then turned into a track that syncs alongside the exhibition space, fusing the collaborative visual art and sound technology.

NONOTAK, who specialise in creative immersive audio-visual environments, are fresh from showcasing at the Late at Tate: Transform exhibition in London’s Tate Britain, where they displayed a choreographed mix of light, sound and performance, which created an ethereal, immersive and dreamlike environment. Wave, meanwhile, are an audio production, music and sound design agency, who primarily work within the advertising industry, but are not adverse to the occasional artistic installation or online film.

Sarah Giles, creative producer at Wave Music, said: “We are thrilled to work with the incredibly talented NONOTAK. We’re always keen to collaborate with art and creative sound - it’s so important and a lot more interesting to embrace innovative projects as technology develops. We’re excited to be exploring experiential projects and this will hopefully be the first of many.” Nakamoto and Schipfer added: “After spending time at Wave we wanted to create something to do with the values that music and sound involves. We thought it would be poetic to have light numbers while passengers are passing along the window display and to set the scene for arriving clients. It tells a little story in relationship with the city, its movements, it’s just narrative in a way that gently brings to life visually the artistic nature of the studios inside - beautiful, digital, and carefully considered.”

Guests were also able to experience Wave’s new Dolby Atmos suite on the night, the first in the world to be running through an Exigy Atmos setup, which offers new object-based technology that enhances the viewing and listening experience with 360-degree cinema sound for a one-of-a-kind immersive auditory experience. Tony Rapaccioli, Dolby Atmos Engineer at Wave Studios, said: “Wave is about excellence in audio and sound and, at this moment in time, Dolby Atmos is the ultimate in sound mixing. Dolby Atmos gives you so much more of an immersive soundscape and we’re excited that we can utilise it to push things to a new level creatively.” Following on from a recent live performance by legendary hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash, NUMBERS is the latest in a series of events to be showcased by Wave & Wave Music, and is definitely worth a trip to Wave to experience whilst it’s still there.
