Brand Case Studies: Diesel Living collaborations take us to the moon and back

Published by

Diesel Living’s collaborations with fellow Italian craft folk has produced some interesting and highly diverse products away from the brand’s staple jeanswear.

A lighting range with Foscarini created eclectic and incandescent lamp models that spoke of rock and pop, vintage and industrial all within the same collection. Scavolini & Diesel Living kitchens were, in comparison, surprisingly simple and paired back. But the warm and approachable designs still surprised fans. And the brand’s partnerships with Moroso and Berti created killer Italian furniture and flooring that plays homage to Italy's design ancestry.

But Diesel Living’s most recent collaboration with homewear designers Seletti, is by far our favourite yet. Split into two collections; Cosmic Diner and Machine, the alliance has produced crazy fun tablewares which do not take themselves in any way seriously. Think salt and pepper grinders shaped like '60s and '70s rockets, cutlery with spanner parts on one end and bowls shaped like toothed gears.

The collaboration was presented at Salone del Mobile at last month’s Milan Design Week alongside Diesel Living's Foscarini, Scavolini, Moroso and Berti partnerships. The overall effect was a cohesive design space which showcased all of the brand's recent associations.*

Cosmic Diner presents glasses blown and tinted to look like meteorites, moon and planet porcelain plates that wouldn’t look out of place on the wall and vases in the shape of astronauts. The collection plays with colours, textures and fantasy to create Diesel Living’s very own galaxy. There’s no dimensionality in the designs - it’s all extraterrestrial beauty.

Meanwhile Machine presents handleless espresso cups resembling nuts and bolts, storage canisters of industrial proportions also inspired by screws and porcelain plates with cogged edges - all coated in industrial white finishing. These ceramic interpretations of gears, cogs and machinery take inspiration from global mechanisms. Together they present an industrial but dynamic dinner setting.

The Diesel lifestyle is built on passion, creativity and personality. Using the brand’s ironic and unexpected approach to design, the new home collection reflects every aspect of the Diesel philosophy. Space life has always been a big inspiration for them, and their designs have long had a cyberpunk futuristic approach. This, fused with Seletti’s creative know-how has produced a product range as fun as it is fascinating.

The range is also extremely affordable with the planetary plates starting at £19. Our only wish is that this celestial collab continues to produce homeware we can’t wait to eat off...
