YouTube unveils pre-Cannes Lions ad leaderboard

With Cannes Lions 2017 on the horizon, YouTube has today released their special edition Cannes YouTube Ads Leaderboard celebrating the most popular global video ads since last year’s festival. Please note that this is purely for fun, given that this list represents clicks and views, not creativity and award hype. We can't, for example, see a Clash of Clans ad claiming a Grand Prix anytime soon. That being said, however, the actually rather inspiring Budweiser spot has been a firm favourite in the last few months, and we're willing to be proven wrong. Also, sometimes it's good to step back from the industry bubble and see what everyone else is enjoying.

These ads represent 11.8 million hours of ad watching. Three of the Leaderboard winners were repeat winners from 2016. New entrants to the Cannes special Leaderboard include Knorr, Shell, Purple, Cricket Wireless, Budweiser and Kia. Star power from John Cena, Jennifer Hudson, Ronaldo and various football superstars and Melissa McCarthy has undoubtedly helped many of these spots gain an audience. There are also three Super Bowl spots from Hyundai, Kia and Budweiser, which is rather telling.
