Warc 100 database name 2014's top agencies and brands

The Warc 100 database, which tracks international winners of effectiveness and strategy awards, recently named Ogilvy & Mather New York as the Americas top creative agency, PepsiCo as the top advertiser and Samsung Galaxy as the top brand, according to new data. The Warc 100 list reflects the importance of strategic thinking in marketing, showcasing the very best work from across the globe and raising awareness of the leading cases. In the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, meanwhile, AMV BBDO has taken the top creative agency spot, with Unilever claiming the title of number one advertiser.

The Warc 100 rankings are based on points accrued through the amount of awards won by over 1,700 winning campaigns in 75 different competitions, including the recent Cannes Lions. Points were assigned based on the level of the awards won (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Grand Prix etc.) and then weighted based on each competition's prestige and 'worth' within the advertising industry. Louise Ainsworth, Warc's CEO says the idea behind the list is to rank “The best of the best,” and that its purpose is to “Help brands and agencies keep up to date with strategies that have a commercial impact, and to benchmark their own performance against their peers."

In the Americas region, Ogilvy & Mather New York scored 95.1 points. BBDO New York took second place with 86.2 and Sunny came in third with 80.7. In the Latin America region, Ogilvy & Mather came out on top again with their Sao Paulo office claiming the top spot, with a 6th placing in overall rankings. The top of the European list was dominated by UK agencies, with the London-based AMV BBDO taking 103.4 points to claim the top spot and OMD UK and OgilvyOne London taking top media agency and top digital agency respectively. On the client side in the Americas, Samsung Galaxy took 89.4 points, with PepsiCo scoring 188.1 points to second-placed Mondelez International's 169.

The top media agency in the Americas, as well as worldwide, was Starcom MediaVest Group Chicago, while the digital agency rankings were topped by Digitas New York. Across the pond, Unilever scooped 211.3 points ahead of Heineken's 176.1 to take the top advertiser spot in Europe and the brand that claimed first place was Vodafone UK. The holding company that came out on top, meanwhile was WPP in the both Americas (1182.6 points to Omnicom's 1137.7) and the EMEA region (1450.3 points to the Omnicom Group's 1352.3). In global rankings, BBDO Worldwide and Omnicom were top agency network and holding company respectively. Meanwhile, the global brand and advertiser rankings were topped by Coca-Cola and Unilever.
