Publicis Group unveils leadership team

Publicis Groupe has appointed Jo Coombs as chief operating officer (COO), reuniting her with the company’s chief executive Annette King, who she worked with at Ogilvy UK.

The new leadership team also includes chief growth officer Anna Campbell and head of talent, Paula Cunnington. They join James Barnes-Austin, who leads the finance team and joined Publicis earlier this year.

As COO, Coombs will drive the Groupe model in the UK, while also acting as an executive sponsor on key pitches. She will also help integrate specialist offerings with a focus on data, content and creativity. Campbell was formerly MD of business development at OMD, while Cunnington was chief people officer, UK and Ireland for Dentsu Aegis Network.

King joined Publicis Groupe from Ogilvy UK earlier this year following her resignation in September 2017.

FCB Inferno appoints head of broadcast

FCB Inferno has appointed Nikki Chapman as head of broadcast, leading the agency’s production offering and developing Fuel Content, the new production arm of the FCB global network.

Chapman will manage in-house production talent and be responsible for a global client roster including BMW, NIVEA and Huawei. She will oversee the latest instalment of Sport England’s multi-award winning This Girl Can movement.

Previously, Chapman worked at Publicis where she was deputy head of production since May 2016 leading on Morrisons, the agency’s biggest production account. Prior to that she was at BBH and CHI & Partners holding roles as executive producer as well a stint at Facebook’s Creative Shop as a content global producer.

Maruri moves to Grey Europe

Grey Group has appointed Latin America president Eduardo Maruri as chief executive of Grey Europe reporting to worldwide chief executive Michael Houston.

He replaces Alain Groenendaal, who served as president and chief executive of Grey Europe for the past two years and led Grey Latin America for four years prior to that. Groenendaal will remain in Europe until the end of the year when he will begin his new role supporting Houston in managing key corporate accounts in New York.

Maruri has been president of Grey Latin America for the past two years. His successor in Latin America will be announced soon.

Proximity ups Hitch

Proximity Worldwide has promoted Troy Hitch from chief innovation officer at Barefoot Proximity to the newly created role of global chief innovation officer.

Hitch originally joined Barefoot in 2010 as chief creative officer and assumed the role of chief innovation officer in 2014. He began his career as an agency creative, leading early digital branding efforts for Procter & Gamble.

In 2004 he founded new media agency Big Fat Brain to pioneer interactive content experiences including digital series for Discovery Channel and Sundance Channel. He also led all digital creative at Energy BBDO as ECD where he drove breakthrough work for Ziploc, Quaker, Rosetta Stone, 5 Gum, Bud Light and more.

McCann names Lopez in Japan

McCann Worldgroup has appointed Alex Lopez as chief creative officer in Japan, a new position to further boost creative leadership of the overall group.

Lopez will report to Charles Cadell, representative director, president and CEO of McCann Worldgroup Japan. He will work closely with each group agency’s ECD and senior management to foster a more collaborative environment and strengthen the creative culture to deliver better solutions for clients.

He started his career at Leo Burnett before spending five years at Beacon Communications in Japan, a Leo Burnett, Dentsu and Publicis joint venture, serving as chief creative officer before being promoted to MD.

R/GA Tokyo names MD

Yosuke Suzuki, a founding member of R/GA Tokyo, has been named as the agency’s new MD. Formerly executive strategy director, Suzuki helped establish the office last year.

He previously held senior strategy positions with Dentsu and Naked Communications, leading local and regional planning for multinational automotive, beverage and FMCG clients. Prior to that, he served as planning director of DDB Tokyo.

Since joining R/GA, Suzuki has been responsible for a string of local new business wins, including Shiseido and Glico among other Japanese clients which have seen the office become the network’s fastest growing base.

Klonhammer joins Clemenger BBDO

Clemenger BBDO has announced the appointment of Olivier Klonhammer as national group production director. He will assume responsibility for Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and Sydney's integrated production departments.

Klonhammer joins the agency from 180 Amsterdam, where he was head of integrated production at the Dutch firm. He previously spent 11 years at Wieden+Kennedy working on brands including Nike, EA Games, Heineken, PlayStation and Coca-Cola.

TMW hires head of social & influencer

TMW Unlimited has appointed Richard Langrish as head of social and influencer. Langrish joins from DeVries Global London where he was associate director of digital strategy.

He will oversee the ongoing development of TMW Unlimited’s social and influencer capability, including its specialist social-first agency, Things Unlimited. Prior to DeVries, he was social media manager at Cubaka working on brands including Toyota and Lexus.
