Yesterday, Working Mother, the magazine for career-committed mothers, announced their 100 Best Companies for “Outstanding leadership in establishing policies, programs and corporate culture that supports working moms” in 2014 by including childcare services, flexible work arrangements and paid parental leave, and providing access to family friendly programs. For the first time, Ogilvy & Mather was included as the only advertising agency on the list. To celebrate this nomination, O&M North America will be hosting a party honouring their working mothers and instigating “Special creative signage” throughout its New York headquarters this week. The agency also has a personal potential award-winner in their midst in the form of Jennifer Picone, Ogilvy & Mather's client finance director, who has been nomintaed as a "Working Mother of the Year," representing all of Ogilvy & Mather North America's working mothers. Picone will be given her own special tribute at the party.

Donna Pedro, chief diversity & inclusion officer at Ogilvy & Mather, said the agency has always “Been aware of the prestige of the Working Mothers list,” and that they are thrilled that their efforts to improve their policies regarding working mothers have led to them being named on this year's list. She said that as a mother herself and a leader, she is “Especially proud to be recognised.” These efforts include offering mothers various policies that allow them to more effectively balance their work and home lives, such as “Emergency childcare, child-rearing leave, on-site lactation rooms, and a flexible work policy,” which lets employees choose either more flexible work hours or the ability to work from home one day a week. John Seifert, the chairman/CEO of Ogilvy & Mather North America, is not surprised to have been listed this year. He said O&M always strives to offer their employees the best, and that they offer “A family-friendly environment” that allows our their employees to be “The best parents they can be.” He feels that the benefits they offer, coupled with their new flexible work policy, directly contributes to the the “Creative thinking and award-winning work being produced each and every day" by their employees.

Jennifer Owens, the editorial director of Working mother media, notes that the list, which is now in its 29th year, acts as a “Powerful reminder of how great companies can and do create supportive workplaces for their employees.” She believes that “All employers would do well to follow their lead if they want to attract and retain top talent." Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media, meanwhile, is “Thrilled to honour the U.S. companies that put words into action and build family-friendly cultures on the foundation of thoughtful policies and effective programs.” She stresses that, considering women now make up 50% of the country's workforce, it's more important than ever that working mothers “Need to make sure they have the support to be outstanding mums as well as great employees."
