Happy Halloween! Getting spooky in Shoreditch's Haunted House

Published by

Celebrities in London's Shoreditch (Jack The Ripper Territory) recently got scared out of their wits by O2 thanks to a unique haunted house, which VCCP Kin created as part of the brand's “Connected Devices” campaign. Reality TV stars Helen Flanagan, Rylan Clark and Lucy Watson were amongst some of the celebrities braving the “O2 Possessed” house, an experience made possible thanks to the brand's connected Samsung devices.

The unique scare event makes use of smart-watches to monitor the heart rates of participants upon entering and exiting the attraction as they undertake a hunt for the restless soul of one of the ripper's victims. Everything in the attraction is controlled using smart devices, even the lighting is controlled through the Phillips Hue app. Kristian Lorenzon, head of social media at O2, said they “Love helping customers get the most out of their technology,” and feels that “O2 possessed helps bring smart technology to life in a really fun way.” She adds that these experiences are completely powered and controlled through technology available via O2, so they wanted to make the haunted house “Both inspiring and terrifying.”

During their experiences, the celebrities tweeted their followers with photos of themselves enjoying (if that's really the right word here) their time in the possessed house, with Made In Chelsea star Watson and X Factor finalist Rylan both terrified by the experience and genuinely fascinated by the technology. The house will be open to 50 selected members of the public throughout the Halloween period, who will be selected through the O2 Priority app and through competitions organised on social media. Visitors are guided through five rooms, each powered by a range of phones and tablets, and friends and strangers alike can watch at home with O2's YouTube channel. All guests to the house will receive a video clip of their experience, and their footage could also be used to promote the campaign further via O2's own online platforms.

VCCP also recently won the UK creative and media account for online fashion retailer Asos

In related news, VCCP also recently won the UK creative and media account for online fashion retailer Asos. They agency came out on top, beating out two other (as yet unnamed) agencies in a competitive pitch, which was run in-house. VCCP take the reins from Carat, who were the incumbent media agency in the UK before resigning it earlier this year. The brand has also worked with BBH on global campaigns in the past, and employed Mother as its first UK creative agency in 2010. Asos CEO Nick Robertson said the move was made in an effort to “Redeploy spend more effectively” after it doubled its marketing budget last year. The company has been struggling recently, with a fire back in June destroying their distribution centre in Barnsley and a 14% fall in pre-tax profit to £46.9 million this financial year. Still, sales growth is up 35% in the UK and 44% in mainland Europe, so VCCP will undoubtedly try to capitalise on this defiant forward momentum.
