Game of Thrones stars recreate SodaStream ad for sustainability

Published by

A trio of stars from HBO hit Game of Thrones have reunited for a remake a 2017 SodaStream ad to raise awareness around single-use plastic.

Say Goodbye features actors Thor Bjornsson AKA The Mountain, Hannah Waddingham AKA Septa and Kristian Nairn AKA Hodor - pictured above with Daniel Birnbaum (centre left), CEO of SodaStream. The ad shows each of them struggling with single-use plastic bottles in everyday situations before realising they should just get rid of them.

The campaign aims to capitalise on the phenomenal success of Game of Thrones, which concludes its eighth and final season on Sunday. The new spoof marks the ninth video SodaStream has made with the series’ actors in just three years for the environmental cause.

The ad launched in the runup to the finale of Game of Thrones, airing this Sunday.
The original concept for the ad, released in 2017.

The collaboration has been key to engaging millions of consumers around the world in recognising the global challenge of single-use plastic waste and pollution and encouraging them to act.

At the end of last year, the brand’s It’s time for a change ad (below) focused on the global damage caused by single-use plastic bottles and once again featured Bjornsson calling on people to take responsibility and go reusable.

Bjornsson also appeared in this ad for SodaStream last year.
