All the ads of Christmas 2019 (continued...)

Published by

Following our round-up of the first wave of Christmas ads from all the big UK retailers and others such as Amazon, Macy's and Cineworld, it's time to take a look at the latest seasonal spots doing the rounds this week.

Entering the fray are Sainsbury's, a supermarket which always goes big and celebrates 150 years in 2019; Debenhams, which has launched two spots; and Selfridges, with the big reveal from John Lewis still to come.

Despite the latter holding back until after all its major competitors, the release of a teaser rumoured to be from the company has sent fans into overdrive with excitement...

#ExcitableEdgar

Is a creature named Excitable Edgar set to become the star of Christmas 2019? It's more than likely. Last year, John Lewis chose to collaborate with singer Elton John for its Christmas campaign which neatly coincided with the release of his biopic feature film Rocketman but find out on Thursday morning how this year's plays out. Set your alarm for around 8am and fire up Twitter for the big moment as agency adam&eveDDB does its thing.

Australia Post: Spread the Merry

This Christmas, Australia Post is encouraging all Australians to spread the merry through agency The Monkeys, part of Accenture Interactive. Rabbit Films produced the ad.

Boots: #GiftLikeYouGetThem

Christmas shopping has never been harder. What do you buy the person who is big on beauty? Or what do you buy the person who, quite literally, has everything? Well, Boots has got you this year as it helps the nation #GiftLikeYouGetThem with the help of Ogilvy UK and Academy Films.

Debenhams: Christmas TV ad 2019

On a similar gifting theme, Debenhams wants you to buy the presents that show you know them this year. Find sweets of the 80s for the nostalgic types and bright knits for the loud and proud in its range. It's promoting three for two offers to get your gift list ticked off with ease – no elves required.

Debenhams: Advent Adventure 2019

The second of two films from Debenhams encourages consumers to let the countdown begin by exploring its range of advent calendars and building the excitement for the big day in December. Both spots were created in-house.

LOEWE: An Otter’s Tale

Blinkink collaborated with Spanish luxury fashion brand LOEWE to deliver a Christmas campaign with a difference based on the work of ceramicist William de Morgan.

M&S: Go Jumpers for Christmas

Pack it up, pack it in. Let Christmas begin with this energetic film created by ODD and Cherry for M&S, the second Christmas spot from the brand in 2019.

Sainsbury’s: Nicholas the Sweep

150 years ago Sainsbury’s opened its first store and Christmas changed forever. Coincidence? Almost certainly… It's ad this year comes courtesy of Wieden+Kennedy and Pulse Films.

Selfridges: Future Fantasy - A Christmas for Modern Times

Selfridges' film is directed by Nabil Elderkin and stars Noomi Rapace, Miguel, Daniel Arsham and friends. As part of the company's Future Fantasy Christmas – where it's celebrating a modern take on the festive season – it has joined forces with some of the most exciting names in fashion, film and design to explore what its festivities might look like 1,000 years from now.
