UK Mobile Advertising grows and grows

Mobile advertising has grown 132% in the first half of the year. The progression in the popularity of smartphones has led to mobile advertising revenues almost hitting £500 million in 2012.

In the first 6 months of this year mobile advertising in the UK grew by 132% to £181.5 million, according to the latest Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) report carried out by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The popularity of smartphones is developing quickly with the growth of popular Apple and Google app stores, which are now used by nearly 60% of the UK adult population. Forecasts expect that by the end of 2012 mobile advertising spend will reach as high as £511 million.

One of the largest factors on digital display advertising, though not on mobile, is Facebook. Enders Analysis published the UK’s full year ad revenues at £236 million. This equates to a 35% rise on last year.

Overall internet advertising for the UK rose by 12.6% in the first 6 months to £2.59 billion, and is expected to surpass £5 billion by the end of the year.
