Sony and relentlessGENERATOR celebrate Ghostbusters 30th anniversary

Published by

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the seminal 80's comedy-horror classic “Ghostbusters,” the digital marketing and eCommerce solutions provider, 'relentlessGENERATOR' have signed up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to create “Engagement-focused online destinations to support the film's theatrical re-release and special edition Blu-ray anniversary release.” The 1984 film, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson and director Harold Ramis as a team of ghost hunters, has been restored and given a full 4K remaster for the occasion, and this new version of the cult classic will be shown at over 700 locations throughout the US and Canada throughout September.

Fans and curious first-timers alike can use the bespoke online platform at www.ghostbusters.com to purchase cinema tickets and check-out never-before-seen photos, prints, mobile games and user-generated content, getting involved with the movies re-release, which arrives hot the heels of an announcement suggesting the franchise might return in the near future with an all-female cast. The site also features a raft of bespoke Ghostbusters merchandise, including a “Rare glow-in-the-dark vinyl soundtrack,” which in itself is pretty iconic. The Blu-ray anniversary editions of both Ghostbusters 1 & 2 will, of course, also be available individually as well as together within a collectible Digibook, and a Limited Edition gift set that comes with an exclusive collectible Slimer (let's be honest, everyone's favourite character) figurine.

Mark Caplan, vice president of Sony Pictures Consumer Marketing, said the idea behind the new platform is to give fans an “Opportunity to delve further into the magic of Ghostbusters,” and also to “Introduce the film to new generations." He adds that "relentlessGENERATOR's platform provides the opportunity for people to get their Ghostbusters fix in an immersive, secure environment."

relentlessGENERATOR are “Beyond excited to have worked with Sony Pictures to create these online platforms for the iconic Ghostbusters brand."

On the other side of the coin, Grant Johnmann, the executive producer at relentlessGENERATOR, said the agency, which specialises in providing direct-to-consumer marketing and commerce solutions to the entertainment industry, are “Beyond excited to have worked with Sony Pictures to create these online platforms for the iconic Ghostbusters brand." He says that the new sites created by his agency are “Beautiful, modern, and commensurate with the legendary franchise,” so much so, that he thinks they'll help keep fans engaged for yet “Another 30 years!”

As well as developing and hosting the online Ghostbusters experience, relentlessGENERATOR will also be marketing the destination to its network of entertainment buyers by promoting the new and exciting branded Ghostbusters products.
