Mark Peters joins TBWA\Chiat\Day LA and David&Goliath makes three new creative hires

Published by

There were some quite exciting moves in LA adworld yesterday. For starters, it was announced that Mark Peters has joined TBWA\Chiat\Day's LA office as creative director. Peters joins TBWA\Chiat\Day from Deutsch LA, an agency he joined in 2010 after leaving mcgarrybrown as manager of their Verizon account. Whilst at Deutsch, he served as senior vice president and lead the successful Volkswagen account, spearheading the “Little Darth” and “The Dog Strikes Back,” Star Wars referencing spots. In his new role, Peters will be leaving his one-client past behind, working across numerous accounts, including Southwest Airlines, Nixon, Gatorade and NKLA (No Kill Los Angeles).

Steven Butler, TBWA\Chiat\Day's chief creative officer, says that Peters has “Mark has an impressive background, and a rich history of creating inspiring, needle-moving campaigns for a slew of top-tier multinational brands.” Brands which include BMW, AT&T, Motorola, USP, Legacy, and countless others that he worked on during his time at not only Deutsch and mcgarrybrown, but also Ogilvy LA, where he served as art director, the Martin Agency, and GSD&M. Peters is a graduate of the University of Virginia and former professional soccer (football, get it right yanks) player.

David &Goliath LA, meanwhile, yesterday announced the hiring of three new creatives in the form of Dino Spadavecchia, Chris Hutchinson and Driscoll Reid. Spadavecchia will assume the role of global creative director, and both Hutchinson and Reid will be brought on board as creative directors. Spadavecchia's most recent major industry role was as senior vice president and creative director at Leo Burnett in Chicago, but he left after two years this February to become a freelancer. Even though the news of this hire only broke recently, Spadavecchia apparently moved over to LA to join D&G back in May. Spadavecchia has also worked in AD/CD roles at Saatchi LA, GS&P and The Garage, working for clients such as Chevrolet, HP, Hyundai, Logitech, Mazda, Nintendo and Toyota.

Hutchinson and Reid, meanwhile, join D&G from TBWA\Chiat\Day, where they had spent almost two years as associate creative directors, and most recently helped on the Adidas World Cup campaign. Their departure from TBWA\Chiat\Day and Mark Peters' arrival are certainly not coincidental. Hutchinson and Reid are noted partners who worked together previously for five years at W+K in both Tokyo and Portland, so their existing creative rapport will undoubtedly be a real boon to the D&G team. Together the three new hires will be working on the California Lottery, Kia and Vizio, as well as several other yet-to-be-announced accounts.
