Fashion's New Year's honours

Published by

The 2013 New Year's honours list has been drawn up and announced. This year it consists of a female-heavy list of special mentions and an ominous absence of big names such as Andy Murray and David Beckham whom were both expected to receive knighthoods for their sporting achievements.

Within the world of fashion there were fewer names than usual, it's Pheobe Philo, the Creative Director of French fashion house Celine, who is lined up to collect an OBE and make-up artist Pat McGrath who will receive an MBE for her work on creating catwalk looks for the likes of Prada, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana and textile designer and Central Saint Martin's tutor Natalie Gibson will take home a CBE.

40-year old Pheobe Philo studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design before moving to Paris in 1997 to assist Stella McCartney, then Creative DIrector of Chloe, before taking over her role in 2011 to lead the fashion house for five years.

Philo became the Creative Director of Celine in 2008 and has become known for reinvigorating the brand ever since. During her time at Celine, Philo was also awarded 'British Designer Of The Year' by the British Fashion Council in 2010 and 'International Designer Of The Year' by the Council of Fashion Designers America in 2011.

Vogue Magazine once dubbed Pat McGrath the world's most influential make-up artist. McGrath had her first career breakthrough in the early 90's when she was working with Edward Enninful on i-D Magazine. She carved a reputation through her innovative use of colour, vinyl lips. latex petals stuck to faces and bodies drenched in powder paint.

She has worked with photographers such as Steven Meisel, Paolo Roversi, Helmut Newton and Peter Lindbergh and with designers such as Prada, Miu Miu, Commes des Garcons and Dolce and Gabbana. She also designed Armani's cosmetic line in 1999 and is in charge of Max Factor and Cover Girl cosmetics for the Procter and Gamble group.

Natalie Gibson claims she 'sees the world in pattern and colour' she herself is a credit to her imagination with her signature mane of magenta hair.
She states: "The thing is I don't move on very much. I still like cats and parrots and roses, and pom poms I love, and tassels and color. It makes me feel happy.
Natalie is the head of the print design department at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

Congraulations to three wonderful women.
