Battersea Dogs & Cats Home #LookingForYou Campaign Launches at Westfield Stratford City

New campaign highlights the importance of rehoming dogs, using innovative tech to emotionally engage shoppers

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has launched its new outdoor campaign at Westfield Stratford City in East London. The #LookingForYou campaign has been specially created to highlight Battersea Dogs & Cats Homes’ quest to rehome dogs by using innovative technology to connect and emotionally engage with passing shoppers.

Battersea volunteers will be handing out specially created leaflets, containing an RFID tag. Anyone who takes a leaflet, makes themselves discoverable. As people walk past the digital billboards around the shopping centre, the technology-enabled leaflet activates Barley, a former Battersea dog, on the screens, who then magically follows them around the shopping centre from screen to screen.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home anticipates the emotional engagement people experience with Barley will generate heightened awareness of rehoming its dogs, encouraging people to donate to the charity or get involved in other ways.

The #LookingForYou hashtag reveals live updates of all the dogs in Battersea’s care while the specially created microsite allows people to donate to the charity.

On average, Battersea has around 300 dogs in its care at any one time and they rehome dogs and cats all over the UK, and the likes of France, Denmark and Switzerland. Last year the world-famous charity rehomed nearly 3,000 dogs, which equates to eight dogs for every day of the year.

There is no time limit on how long a dog will stay in Battersea’s care, but on average dogs stay at the Home for approximately 36 days before finding new owners. Battersea’s current longest stay resident is Martha, a Staffordshire bull terrier who has been waiting over one year for a new home.

Carly Whyborn, Head of Operations at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, says: "We're very excited about the #LookingForYou campaign - as a nation of dog lovers we're hoping it strikes a chord with people. Battersea rehomes animals all over the UK and beyond and this could help encourage people to choose a rescue dog. We're using innovative technology in a way that has never been seen before, and we hope more of our abandoned animals find loving homes because of it."

Established in 1860, the charity champions the nation’s vulnerable dogs and cats, and is determined to help them get a much needed second chance in life.

#LookingForYou was designed and implemented by OgilvyOne UK, the UK’s leading customer engagement agency, who were behind British Airways’ award winning digital campaign ‘Magic of Flying’.

Other companies who have contributed to this ground-breaking project include: Cisper Electronics, Creation Company Films Limited, Exterion Media, Framestore, Intellifi, Kevin Mallett Photography, Mount Pleasant Studios Limited, REAL Digital International Limited, RFIDiom and Westfield Stratford City.
