Let your creativity be of inspiration to others

Published by

As a global community, we have the priceless fortune to witness works by creatives from all around the world. Few things are as valuable as seeing how creativity spread across the globe.

This week we are going as far as Indonesia to have a virtual chat with Hasdho, a creative retoucher who's had the chance to work for several international clients. Hasdho's drive and motivation jump at you through his words, betraying a lively creative spirit that thrives in being of inspiration to others.

For this Member Spotlight, we are taking a peek at the beautiful colours, mindset and works of a talented retoucher straight from our community.

How did you get into the industry?

From the very start I was very interested in design and so I started to pursue graphic design. After seeing several works with photography material, I became curious with how it was all made. Since then I have been pursuing photography and Creative Retouching.

Where are you based now and who do you work for?

Now I focus on product branding and retouching. I currently work as a freelancer and also as a creator of tutorial video content, about Photoshop and Design in general.

If you weren’t in your current industry, what would you be doing?

I have always been passionate about fashion and the culinary fields. I would have loved to become an entrepreneur in either of those two.

Can you explain your creative process?

The first thing I do to find creative ideas is to read and look at other design works. This gets me inspired. From that I can usually find initial ideas to create work. Then I produce according to my imagination and the value or message I want to convey.

How has technology affected the way you work (if at all)?

Technology was a game changer in my work, especially since creative ideas can be realised with the help of it. With advances in technology, this will greatly facilitate the creative process itself.

What’s your secret to staying inspired and motivated?

I always try not to be satisfied with what I have produced, because I believe everyone has their own creative ideas and I don't want to stop learning. I want to be able to produce work that can be an inspiration for others.

What’s the work achievement you’re most proud of?

I have worked as a retoucher for several photographers outside Indonesia. That's my greatest achievement. Besides that, as a freelancer, I have worked on several local branding products based where I currently live.

How do you recharge away from the office?

I really enjoy sports and for me it is a way to refresh my mind, to help me keep working.

What advice would you give to other aspiring creatives looking for work?

I understand that in today's world, competition in the creative industry doesn't make things easy for those starting out, because there are so many talented people around. But precisely this should be our motivation to continue working, by improving the quality of our work so that there will be more oppportunities. We need to keep trying to give maximum work results, even when we get 'that' job.

What’s your one big hope for the future of the creative industries?

I really hope that the creative industry can keep providing more and more space for creative talents, so they will be able to get jobs that can help them improve their abilities. We're all extremely lucky to do what we love for a living. Having a source of income while learning and improving our skills is priceless.
