Microsoft celebrates the launch of the Surface 3 with pop-up exhibition ‘The Art of Doing More’

  • Exhibition inspired by the Surface 3’s ability to empower people to do and achieve more
  • 101 pieces of new and exclusive contemporary art to be showcased and gifted


To celebrate the launch of the new Surface 3 – Microsoft has teamed up with modern art company Beautiful Crime and 11 contemporary artists to create The Art of Doing More, a pop-up exhibition in London’s Finsbury Avenue Square. 

Today, Tuesday 12 May is the last day of the free, four-day exhibition that feature 101 original pieces created using the Surface 3 from the likes of Carne Griffiths, Saroj Patel, D*Face, Chuck Elliott, Pascal Barker, Pam Glew.

The first eligible 100 people to purchase a Surface 3 at The Art of Doing More will be gifted one of the exclusive artworks and will also be in with a chance of winning a unique piece by street artist D*Face.

Ellie Richardson, Surface senior category manager at Microsoft said: “We wanted to bring to life the versatility and capability of the Surface 3 with this exhibition. While it has the size and portability of a tablet, the Surface 3 has the performance of a laptop, which we knew would pair magically with the creativity of some of Britain’s top contemporary artists. The resulting 101 artworks are a testament to their talent and the power of technology to help people do more.”

Ruthie Holloway, creative director at Beautiful Crime said: “As the art world increasingly intersects with digital technology, artists are exploring the possibilities of meshing art with technology more and more.  The Surface project has given the artists we work with a fantastic opportunity to combine creativity, art and technology in ways they hadn't done before.”

British urban artist Dean Stockton, aka D*Face, explained how the Surface played an integral role in the creation of his work: “It’s been interesting to work alongside such a wide variety of other artists, such as Carne Griffiths and Chuck Elliott, and see the different ways they’ve used the Surface. The attraction of the Surface 3 for me as an artist was that there was a continuous synergy between what I create in the studio and how I can take my work anywhere on the go. It’s not restricting in terms of having a laptop, and then a drawing table as it’s all of those elements in one device.”

Surface 3 is available at Microsoft Store and at the following retailers: Argos, Currys PCWorld, John Lewis, Littlewoods, Staples, Very.co.uk and, starting at £419.
