Annual 2021 FAQ: The 10 ‘Most’ Asked Questions About the Awards

Published by

This is it! With the Annual 2021 standard submissions deadline out of the way, you only have until midnight PT on 10th June to enter the awards.

I'm sure some of you will still be working on their entries. It’s all good. We all love to leave it till the last minute, enjoy that rush of adrenaline that comes as a deadline creeps in. If you are in that situation right now, however, your head may be swarmed with questions. How do I do it? Where do I do it? And most importantly, what’s in it for me?

The awards team and I have been receiving an interesting range of questions this year, so I decided to group them all in the wondrous list below. Behold: here’s the 10 ‘most’ asked questions about Annual 2021!

How do I submit my projects?

This is the very first step of the process, and yet one where it’s easy to get a bit lost. In truth, the process to enter Annual 2021 is quite simple; and it all starts on your Creativepool profile.

Choose the project, work or case study you would like to enter, gather your assets, then hop on to this page (you must be logged in!) to upload it on your Creativepool profile. Make sure to fill all the relevant credits, descriptions, tags and everything that may be useful for the judges to understand the scale of your project. Then, add your assets and save everything. Your project will now appear in the dropdown menu on our Submit page, where you will be able to choose your category and enter some copy.

What are the entry requirements?

There are some criteria to enter Annual 2021. Projects must be commercial work and they must have gone live between 1st January 2020 and 27th May 2021, or they won’t be eligible to be part of the Shortlist.

Additionally, we cannot accept conceptual work. Your entry must have been released to the public to be eligible for the awards. Other than that, as long as your work fits within one of our categories, it can be entered into Annual 2021.

Can I enter the same project in multiple categories?

Yes. In fact, your project has a better chance of being shortlisted or winning if you send it to different panels! We have 6 different judges sitting in each jury, who will all be looking at the entries and scoring them based on different category criteria. If you have a work that fits into Advertising: TV but also features some stellar animation, why not enter both?

Conversely, you can absolutely enter the same category with multiple projects. Your works will not compete against each other, as each one will be scored in isolation by our esteemed judges. I’ll be expanding on that point later, but suffice to say for now that you shouldn’t limit your possibilities by only entering something once. If you want to enter 5 categories with 10 different projects, you are more than encouraged to do so!

Can I save my entries to submit later?

Yes, you can. Once you are on either our Submit or Nominate page and you start writing your entries, you will be able to click on our button “Save for Later” to store your entry away for another time.

You can do that multiple times, with multiple entries, and then come back to finish them another time. Once you navigate back on the page, as long as you do it from the same device, browser and without clearing your navigation data, you will find all your entries waiting for you.

If for any reason you lose your entries, do get in touch with the team and we’ll find a way to retrieve it for you!

Where do I see my entries after I submit?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to see or edit your entries after you submit them. Once entered into the awards, they are gone, and they stay with us to carefully hold them and care for them until the announcement of the Shortlist.

However, there are cases in which you may need to make some emergency edits on your entries. In that case, please do get in touch with the team and we’ll be able to assist you.

Will I compete against others in my category?

Nope. Simple as that.

With The Annual, each work only competes against itself. There is no first, second or third – our scoring system guarantees equal opportunities to win to any work that is entered into the awards. Individuals do not compete against companies, nor the opposite is true. Even companies do not compete amongst themselves. This is to ensure that all the best works from the industry are awarded exactly what they deserve – without a podium to separate the top from the rest.

Last year, Sherlock Comms surprised us across the board with some of the highest scores ever awarded in the history of Creativepool. It was then declared our PR Agency of the Year and People's Choice in that category.

How does the scoring system work?

In a way that ensures equal chances of winning for everybody. Our esteemed judges will score your projects against a set of stringent criteria, to determine which ideas and projects will define the future of the industry on a global scale.

We then put together their votes and calculate the average. Above an average of 7, all projects receive a Bronze. Silver is awarded to an average of 8 or higher; while our coveted and prestigious Gold is only awarded to those who score an average of 9 or above. Quite an achievement, if you consider that 6 leaders from all over the industry will have the chance to observe your work.

How does People’s Choice work?

The Annual is the only creative award with a People’s Choice element. In the two weeks in which our judges do their work, the community is called upon to vote on the best entries in each category. In this case, however, there can only be one winner in each. The project/entry with the most votes at the end of the two weeks will be awarded the prestigious People’s Choice.

People’s Choice can only be awarded to one project/person/company in each category. It is a moment of fun and healthy competition for the whole industry, during which the Creativepool community has the chance to get a saying on which works are truly the ‘most’ of the industry. Every year, thousands of votes are cast from the community, and we expect 2021 to be just as huge – if not bigger.

Are the awards free to enter?

Partly, yes! Each year we have a range of categories that are absolutely free to enter, usually in our Awards section (Best Agency to Work For, Best Brand to Work For etc.). However, following the Covid-19 pandemic, this year we introduced two brand-new categories into the competitionCovid19 and Social Good. These are entirely free to enter and welcome works about Covid19 or engaged in bringing some social good into this industry – and the world.

In total, we have 42 categories this year, with most subject to an entry fee. However you are still in time to save on the late submissions fee, which will be introduced past this Thursday. Enter now to save some money while you still can!

Our free categories are:

  • Covid19
  • Social Good
  • Best Agency to Work For
  • Best Brand to Work For
  • Emerging Talent of the Year

When is the deadline?

You only have until midnight Pacific Time on Thursday, 10th June to enter Annual 2021. That is our final submissions deadline – your last chance to be crowned a master of creativity this year!
