Describe your work in one sentence.

Sometimes chaotic, sometimes calm!

 

What attracted you to your chosen field?

I came across digital illustration purely by accident. I was working as an Interior Designer for an architectural company in the City and noticed I enjoyed the graphics part of my job the most, so decided to pursue a career in this instead. The thought of working for myself was both daunting and exciting, whilst the freedom to work from home was a big attraction.


What do you think sets you apart from your competitors?

* My hunger to succeed. I offer professionalism, experience, loyalty, enthusiasm, motivation, passion, dedication and commitment, all rolled into one.

 

Tell us about your best project to date.

I'm doing a pitch right now for a very well-known American jeans company, which will be a great advertising project if all goes to plan.

 

Who inspires you and why?

The Depth Core community - a great bunch of artists who push the boundaries of experimental photo-illustration - and Jericho Santander, from Spain, for his mind blowing surreal illustrations and technical perfection.

 

Tell us one random fact about yourself.

I was a backing dancer for Curiosity Killed the Cat in the 1980's! If you look closely in the video you will see me doing crazy robotic dance in the background.

 

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing Illustrators and Designers like yourself?

The illustration market is completely saturated at the moment. You have to always be one step ahead of everyone else, constantly reinventing yourself. Also, Illustrators don't get the recognition they deserve: we're perceived as people who just draw pretty pictures!

 

What do you like about Creativepool?

The automatic email job alerts are a great idea for keeping up to date with the latest listings and vacancies. At least you know the jobs that come through are relevant to your profession, not just random listings.

 

*If you could have ONE super power, what would it be?

This sounds like something from Heroes, but it would be cool to be able to absorb the talents of those around you and replicate them.

 

What pearl of wisdom can you offer to someone starting out in your industry?

Be original, stay focused and do what you do best. Try not to follow trends and stick to developing your own style. If you put in the hard work you will eventually get recognised.

 

If you could work on any project for any company or organisation, what would it be and who would it be for?

I'd love to run an entire advertising campaign - from start to finish - for anyone from Bentley and Ferrari, to Sony PlayStation.

 

And finally, what are you up to at the moment?

I'm travelling to Taiwan next month to give an illustration lecture at a two-day seminar. I've just given a live interview for Photosh

op Creative Magazine, which will feature in their website podcast in December. I'm currently looking for more freelance work - so if you're a creative agency, give me a shout!
