"Perseverance is a must! Don't give up at the first hurdle....."

Describe your work in one sentence.
Bold, colourful, fun images that hopefully make you think a bit.

What's the most important thing you've learnt in your line of work?
Have confidence in your ideas and keep calm then usually the work will take care of itself.

What attracted you to your chosen field?
Drawing for a living, what could be better than that?! It's what I love to do!
Initially I was headed for a career in architecture before I realised I had far too much creative energy for that and discovered I could actually do a degree in a thing called Illustration! A match made in heaven!

Tell us about your best project to date.
Designing an educational interactive tutorial for the UCA (University for the Creative Arts).
My web design company was asked to design a tutorial that students with language problems could use to help them with referencing; It allowed me to apply my designs skills to multiple areas as I was involved in all aspects of the applications design; from the logo to the user interface as well as also providing accompanying illustrations.

What sets you apart from your competitors?
As well as being a creative I'm also a bit of a science geek and the ideas behind my work tend to reflect that. I aim to create striking visuals that also have a strong conceptual element and this, I hope, makes the audiences experience that little bit more engaging.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.
I can be mostly found down the front in the mosh-pit.....

If you could work on any project for any company/organisation, what would it be and who would it be for?
NASA, designing a mural for the space station.

What's your favourite bit of kit?
My graphics tablet is the best investment I ever made. It has helped make my work process so much faster. I'd be pretty stuffed without my PC, scanner and Photoshop though.....

What frustrates you the most about your job?
Struggling to get exposure and the fact that when budgets get cut the first thing that people stop commissioning is pretty pictures.

What pearl of wisdom can you offer to someone thinking about starting out in your industry?
Perseverance is a must! Don't give up at the first hurdle.....
For a freelance Illustrator the best way to get you started is to try and get an agent. They can take your portfolio around, promote your work and answer calls from clients whilst you're at the day job.

If you could have ONE super power, what would it be?
Teleportation. Then I could go to Hawaii for the weekends :-)
I'd also quite like to be able to time travel but I guess we can't be greedy....

What do you like about Creativepool?
I was attracted to the site because of its recently added freelance directory but it's a fantastic place to look for creative employment. Once you've got yourself set up you can get yourself and your work seen by clients at the click of a button which in the creative industry is a real asset.

What's your favourite song of all time?
"For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica. What can I say...i'm a bit of a metal head. It was the song that first introduced me to them and the rest, as they say, is history. Plus live it's amazing!

And finally, what can a prospective customer expect from you?
A strong work ethic, professionalism, and a truck load of creativity and skill all delivered to the highest order and on time!
