A bit about you

Stefanie is a founding member of the MLOVE advisory board, honorary judge at the Lovie Awards. She launched the iOS application called Gabi, backed by a small international team of media celebrities.

Hoffman worked in product management at Bertelsman, before entering the University of the Arts in Berlin, where she studied communications and strategy and met her founding team for aka-aki.

The mobile social network aka-aki went on to be named Best Mobile Social Network in the 13th Annual Webby Awards and received the Webby People’s Voice Awards in 2009. Hoffman´s work has been covered extensively in media outlets like TechCrunch, The Times, France2 and CNN.

Besides her own projects Hoffmann is consulting clients in the fields of strategy, concept, UI and marketing for mobile applications.

How did you get into digital?

I started my career in a German publishing house called Bertelsmann, where I worked as a product manager for over 7 years. The selling of content was the first contact I had with technology and the world of Internet.

What does a typical day consist of?

Puhh actually my days a quite different. I would say the only constant is going to gym and when I have a free second to watch some American TV Shows. Beside that and a couple of hours in front of the MacBook every day and project are different.

What's been the highlight of your career?

To launch Gabi was a fantastic experience it is the most beautiful app I ever was involved with.

What's the most notable change in the industry in the last 10 years?

That it is finaly “now” the time of mobile. We were waiting a long time that this is finaly happening. Now we are start talking about a “Lifestyle of mobility”. I include here all the topic like intelegient objects, second screen, Quantified self s.o

What do you want to be remembered for?

To be remembered is not a goal I´m working for. I don't see motivation in it. But when I will be, I want that people smiles and say it was fun and inspiring to meet Stefanie.

What's the best advice you've ever received, and who from?

My boyfriend he gave my an old and common one, you have to really love it, do what you really like. It is the only way you can go forward, because you will have to work hard and fail once, twice…

And from my beloved Boss by Bertelsmann he told me: "Stefanie you don't need an answer for every question. Tell them you will clarify that at a later point."

What was your worst job and what did you learn from it?

I was working at a video club when I was 16.

My mom was working there when I was a kid. I thought it will be awesome; I had so many great memories at this time. I learned that I always need a challenge and that I can't stand it when I get bored.

What's your favourite Lovie Winner?

Stephen Fry – very funny guy.

What's the most interesting thing you've seen when Judging The Lovie Awards?

I haven't seen everything but I liked INCREDIBOX by SO FAR SO GOOD.

What do you look for when judging The Lovie Awards?

See the best on the market in the digital space and get inspired.

What app/website can't you live without?

Everything is replaceable….I actually love that on technology everything is constantly changing.

What's the next big thing?

We will integrate sensors and chips in our bodies that is not SIFI anymore it is just in front of us. The big thing is that what we have seen in SIFI movies will come true now. But like Helmut Schmidt once said. Innovation in moral is not happening, innovation in science and technologies yes; since Socrates, Konfuzius and Kant there was close to nothing happening anymore. That let me think a lot what that means for innovation in science and technologies.

Extended Entry Deadline for The Lovie Awards closes on Friday 2nd August. Enter your outstanding digital work now to be honoured as the best of the EU web.
