Together is better…

Together makes a bigger impact. Together is more knowledgeable. Together is more cost effective. Together is easier. With strategic planning, advertising, digital, design and media planning under one roof, together is Nexus|h.

When and why did you join?
I joined the agency about 8 years ago with my writer Glenn Smith. We actually had our sights set on a move to Australia and needed an extra cash injection for the extortionate airfare. So we agreed to a stint of freelance at Nexus|h. We ended up working on a car launch, a beer ad and a top drawer electronics brand, so when asked if we were interested in the role of CD’s we decided to stay.

What do you actually do?
Use my experience and instinct to try and steer myself and others in the right direction.

How did you get started in the industry?
When I was about 15 I was really into the band New Order. Peter Saville did all their album covers - which I thought were great. It was probably then that I decided I wanted to be involved in design in some way. I did a couple of placements in design companies while I was still at school and one of them happened to have a strong advertising bias. I loved it, so I went to University to study advertising. After that it was the usual story of roaming the streets of London knocking on doors.

What would you be doing if you weren't in the industry?
The other avenue I thought about was being an officer in the Royal Marines.

What's your current favourite piece of creative work?
Danny Boyle’s Olympics opening ceremony. Audacious.

What do you love about your job?
I really appreciate its varied nature.

If you could give one piece of advice for someone starting out, what would it be?
Be eclectic in whatever you read, watch, listen to and look at.

If you have one Super power what would it be?
America.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Not bald.

What was your worst job and what did you learn from it?
A fish packer. I learned that fish has a very persistent whiff.

You have already worked with some amazing brands, who would you like to work with next?
I don’t really mind which brand, as long as they have someone in their marketing department that has drive, vision and isn’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in.

Your favourite app or website?
I’m addicted to the website thefancy.com and I use the app snapseed to make my photography look a lot better than it actually is.

Facebook or Twitter?
Facetter, Twittbook, Twittface. Basically, both.

Do you feel more creative in isolation? You're not alone
