5 minutes with... Ben Walker - Beattie McGuinness Bungay

*Ben Walker worked on some of Wieden & Kennedy's most awarded campaigns including Honda "Cog", which he created in 2003, before controvercially moving to BMB in 2010 whilst heading up Wieden's Nokia business. His roster of clients have also included Samsung, McCain and Carling. He he talks about the importance of product testing for a brand like Carling and the profanity you're likely to encounter if you follow him online.

Tell us what you do for a living and who you work for?
Creative Director at Beattie McGuinness Bungay.

What does that involve?
Lots of product testing on McCain and Carling. It's important to know your brands.

How did you get started in the industry?
Did a copywriting course at Hounslow. Dead glam. Failed it. So Burnett's hired me.

What would you be doing if you weren't doing that?
Something food related. Or writing related. With sport mixed in. Writing a blog about my time selling hotdogs at QPR. There.

What's your all-time favourite piece of creative work?
Blimey, anything? Stone Roses by the Stone Roses. Blade Runner. I just went to the RSA in Stratford and the building blew me away. If you mean advertising I always think of the Mash Get Smash Martians.

What do you love about your job?
I get to talk about brilliant ideas with wonderfully talented people

What do you hate about your job?
Sometimes those ideas come to nothing.

Tell us your favourite website?
wildyeast. Engadget. qprreport.

If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?
About the business? Stick to your guns. About cooking? Buy 2 for 1 mini baby bel and muller light. They never go off.

Where can people follow you online?
The usual places. But I warn you, there are no golden nuggets. Just banality and profanity.
