What to see at FUTURE ARTEFACTS this weekend

Published by

Last night we had the chance to have a peek at the inaugural FUTURE ARTEFACTS showcase at Shoreditch Studios in London. The aim of FUTURE ARTEFACTS is to bring together the world’s most progressive music, arts publishing, fashion and tech companies to celebrate the media artefacts of the future. The format of this mini-festival style event combines drop-in workshops related to art and music, talks in conjunction with media partner Dazed and a series of satellite events and club nights. The showcase is brimming with gorgeous print work, fresh vinyls and latest technologies.

So the highlights for us?

Reify: Digital Synesthesia

Catching up with Allison Wood, the founder of this next-gen physical music platform was extremely inspiring. The Reify App transforms sound into a stimuli for both the eyes and ears connecting them into one truly unique experience that must be tried to fully grasp its impact. The 3-D printed digital sculpture interacts with the app, one of the first projects we see actually bridging that gap between physical and digital.

Technology Will Save US

Have you been to a toy aisle recently? I certainly haven't and apparently it’s bleak! The guys servicing the DIY-Tech urges in all of us have crafted some beautifully designed kits to show you. They are soon to be rolling out in a lot of major stores near you! Big ups to Dane Whitehurst and the team at Burgopak Studio for crafting the lovely packaging.

One Little Indian

Bjork’s label was showcasing the VR experience for her Stonemilker video. You might have remembered seeing this at the Pool Party London just passed! Great job again by our friends at REWIND for making it happen. You should have been right there next to them.

The exhibitor lineup is stacked:  Aesop, AMC Books, AnOther, Astral Black, Beatwoven, Baron Magazine, Bemojake, Big Dada, Breakdown Press, Butterz, Claire de Rouen, Diagonal, Ditto Press, Ecstatic Peace Library, Eros, Four Corners, GOST Books, Here Press & Loose Joints, Huntleys & Palmers, In Other Words, Knives, Kodoji, Landfill Editions, LuckyMe, Ninja Tune, One Little Indian, PAN, REGA, Reify, Ridinghouse, Self Publish Be Happy Editions, Sorika, Stolen Recordings, Studio Operative, Super/Collider, Technology Will Save Us and Trolley Books all hanging out under one roof. What a unique opportunity it is to interact with some of the most disruptive and skilled people in the media world.

The FUTURE ARTEFACTS team is headed up by Ben Freeman of Ditto and Deano Jo of Real Gold Brand. The visual identity for the show was created by OK-RM. They are also backed by NTS, DAZED, DICE and Soundstage.

‘We established FUTURE ARTEFACTS to champion the producers of the most beautiful physical manifestations of media today. We’d like to encourage a future where anything that can be digital will be and where the only things that are produced are those that unite visionary content with the world’s best craftsmanship and production techniques. We felt that there was a gap to showcase these producers collectively in London and so we hope that FUTURE ARTEFACTS will provide this opportunity for increased access to, and discussion around, the artefacts of the future.’

- Ben Freeman & Deano Jo.

We’re looking forward to what these guys will bring us next year.
