House of Vans London Opening

Published by

Thursday is definitely the new Friday, and last Thursday we hung out at the new House of Vans for the opening of London’s only indoor skatepark. Because its hidden around five of the Old Vic tunnels beneath Waterloo Station, its a bit hard to locate. We quickly figured out that all we had to do was follow the trail of people wearing Vans. The best part about the location is how you can experience all aspects of the ‘House' at once. The 30,000 square foot venue has a much better layout than New York's massive warehouse feel. You could be watching some 'tres flips' in Tunnel 2, but still catch the echoes from the main stage in Tunnel 3. But wait there's more....

The gallery space kicked off with celebration of DIY culture with an exhibition called 'Scissors & Glue'. Work from Ben Drury, Gorm, Trevor Jackson and Louise Grey represented Vans involvement in art, skateboarding, music and fashion. This also introduced Van's very first 'Zine. We stopped by the cinema for a mini-break, munched some mini-sliders, and watched a compilation video of Vans pros.

The stacked line up included new and classic groups like Savages, Jagger & Juan Love, Roots Manuva, Toddla T, Dinosaur JR, Public Enemy, and Illum Sphere. For the Saturday's party they brought in Boilerroom DJs, Channel One Sound System, Danny Brown, Alexander Nut, and The 2 Bears.

"We are excited for the future, and confident that the house of vans in London will drive us towards achieving the future goals we have set for the brand, and provide a valuable asset to the creative community.” Jan Van Leeuwen, VP of EMEA. Reinforcing this community vibe, the 'House' is associated with 3 big charities; Railway Children, Action for Children, and Old Vic New Voices

Some things to look forward to? Gallery Openings, Movie Premieres, Awesome Gigs, and Skate Jams. If it seems like we have disappeared, you’ll know where to find us.

**Just a reminder: Don’t be alarmed if you have to shoulder up with some sweaty skater at the bar. That’s what you signed up for.
