Celebrating BIG with Beauty Papers

Published by

With summer over and the Christmas season just starting, it’s busier than ever at JJ Media Group. We have an incredible line-up of new exclusive events coming up over the next two months, starting with an epic free rave to celebrate the new issue of Beauty Papers on 17th September, and culminating in a lighting workshop with sought-after celebrity photographer Dan Kennedy on 20th October. Beauty Papers will be using JJ Location Hangar [formerly ‘Mangle’] as their rave venue, this property offers partygoers the perfect large-scale setting to let-loose and enjoy the sounds of renowned London DJ Fat Tony.

We caught up with Beauty Papers Magazine to talk about their anticipated new issue as well as give us an idea of what to expect on the night. If you ever had any doubt, here’s why you need to be there:

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND BEAUTY PAPERS?

Founded by Maxine Leonard and Valerie Wickes, Beauty Papers sets out to examine and explore the ideas that shape how we understand beauty today. “The idea for a new kind of beauty magazine is something I had sat with for a while. Frustrated by observing the lack of diversity in the industry and the dangerous message that one idea fits all I felt there was a real need to voice a different approach. So when on the last train home from Paris whilst chatting with Valerie we found common ground in our observations – the idea for Beauty Papers was born.” — Maxine Leonard.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE THEME OF THE LATEST ISSUE?

In a world where small minds appear to run the ship—often at the expense of creativity, inclusivity and, indeed, humanity—it feels timely for Beauty Papers to celebrate BIG in all its myriad forms; talent, fame, expression, age, honour, gender and conscience. After six issues it’s now apparent to the world that Beauty Papers is no arena for step-by-step lessons on contouring or how to triple-line your eyes for we are a place to unlearn, to experience, to forget, to breathe, to discover and be free. In fact, as this BIG issue becomes yours, perhaps the most pertinent beauty tip comes from the artist Yoko Ono, “Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you’ll start to see a BIG difference in your life.”

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE NIGHT??

A Big Rave for Beautiful People. With the one and only big bad beautiful DJ Fat Tony along with Tom Frankel playing their hearts out.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION?

We loved the industrial energy of the space. It was raw, natural and real and it was BIG.
