ABOUT

My Final Major Project at university was a continuation of a subject area I looked into last year; 'Overlooked Existences'. This year I chose a very small element of nature and wanted to reveal the beauty of it to the viewer. I chose to look at mushrooms as there are so many varieties, shapes, tones and textures that don't get noticed on a daily basis. My project aims to show the wonder in small things; the macro in the micro, and give the viewer an insight into the curiosity and interest that I have.

I really love craft and sculpture and thought that might be a more interesting way of sparking intrigue. I chose to work with a variety of materials, from clay and modroc, to material and embellishments. The process to create each mushroom was completely different and allowed me to explore craft in new and challenging ways. I feel through doing this project I have learnt new craft skills and quenched my need to explore the magical, whimsical and strange world of mushrooms.
