In just a short span since its official launch in 2023, Lumaflex has quickly positioned itself as a groundbreaking force in the wellness industry. Born out of three years of research, testing, and a commitment to scientific validation, the Miami-based company is on a mission to make red light therapy (RLT) accessible, effective, and mainstream. Recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the "Best Inventions in Wellness," Lumaflex has set itself apart not only as a product but as an educational platform driving awareness around natural, non-invasive healing.
At the helm is CEO John Graham Harper, whose vision extends beyond building devices to creating a movement around health, recovery, and well-being. With global expansion underway, a growing product line, and strong partnerships, Lumaflex continues to innovate while staying true to its core mission: empowering people with safe, science-backed tools for healing and performance.

How was your company born and where are you based?
Lumaflex officially launched in May 2023 at a fitness festival in Miami after nearly three years of research, development, and rigorous testing. The journey was long, filled with trial and error, but it allowed us to refine a product that truly stands out in the market. Our focus on user feedback and scientific research made Lumaflex a game-changing wellness solution. We are proudly based in Miami, Florida.
What was the biggest challenge to the growth of your company?
Our greatest challenge has been educating the market. Red Light Therapy (RLT) is still emerging and relatively unfamiliar to the mainstream. While it's gaining traction and endorsements from notable names, our mission to spread awareness and educate on the natural, non-invasive benefits of RLT, especially for pain management and overall well-being, has been an ongoing focus.
Which was the first huge success that you can remember?
One of our earliest and most memorable successes was being awarded TIME Magazine's "Best Invention in Wellness" just months after launching. I received the email while walking to a biohacking conference in Amsterdam where we had a booth. That recognition not only validated our efforts but also gave us a massive morale boost during our early days.
What’s the biggest opportunity for you and your company in the next year?
Over the next year, we're expanding globally. We've already entered markets across the U.S. and Europe, and our sights are now set on Asia for 2026. With a growing product line and robust partnerships, the next 12 months are pivotal for taking Lumaflex mainstream worldwide.
Can you explain your team’s creative process? What makes it unique?
Our design process is rooted in user experience, scientific evidence, and practical functionality. From day one, we aimed to create a product that was portable, flexible, and effective. Lumaflex devices target large areas like the lower back, America's number one pain point yet remain light and portable enough for daily use. We continuously review clinical research to guide product development and have five new innovations in the pipeline. Each product must be consistent, easy to use, and grounded in science.

How does your team remain inspired and motivated?
We’re a mission-driven team who believe deeply in natural healing. Our team culture emphasizes wellness, emotional support, and open communication. We hold weekly "hype sessions," team-building events, and operate on five core values: Communication, Detail, Speed, Action, and Optimization. Everyone in the company believes in what we’re building, and that shared purpose keeps us going.
How has COVID-19 affected your company?
Although we launched after the pandemic, COVID-19 significantly delayed our development timeline. It taught us resilience and the importance of perseverance. Those lessons have stayed with us and shaped how we operate today.
Which agencies do you gain inspiration from? Do you have any heroes in the industry?
I’m deeply inspired by visionary medical device manufacturers and scientists in the red light therapy space. Some of the world’s leading researchers have influenced how we build products and interpret clinical data. These scientists are my heroes, and their mentorship has been invaluable.
What is one tip that you would give to other agencies looking to grow?
Don’t wait until everything is perfect. Get your product or service into the world and iterate based on real feedback. Growth often comes through action, not over-preparation. Momentum builds when you learn on the go.
How do you go about finding new clients/business? (Pitching, work with retainers, etc.)
LinkedIn has been instrumental for us. I actively use it to connect with potential partners and clients. I also attend global wellness, fitness, and medical events, where face-to-face pitching has been key. Conferences and media appearances continue to be strong channels for traction and partnerships.

What’s your one big hope for the future of the industry?
I hope red light therapy becomes a widely accepted and prescribed medical treatment. It should be explored as a first option, before drugs or surgery, especially for pain, inflammation, mental health, and recovery.
Can you share a defining moment in your company's journey that shaped its identity or direction?
About one year in, I shifted focus from simply being a product company to becoming a brand. That’s when I established the Lumaflex Academy, our education platform, bringing on a team of scientists to simplify the science for everyone, from professionals to end-users. This investment in education truly set us apart.
How do you foster a culture of innovation and experimentation within your team?
Our team thrives on experimentation. Coming from competitive sports, I bring that team mentality into our company culture. I reward creativity, recognize achievements, and foster a safe space to test, fail, and improve. Design competitions, in-office activities, and constant communication all help maintain that innovative spark.
What measures do you take to ensure diversity and inclusion are prioritised within your company?
Diversity is naturally built into our team. We welcome individuals of all ages, genders, and nationalities as long as they share our passion for health and healing. Our inclusive culture ensures that everyone feels valued and supported.
Can you describe a project that challenged your team creatively and how you overcame any obstacles?
One notable challenge was rebranding Lumaflex with a more medical and wellness-forward logo. It required adjustments across product development and marketing, but the team’s flexibility and commitment allowed us to execute the transition smoothly.

How do you balance maintaining your company's unique creative voice while meeting the diverse needs of clients?
We’re adaptable by design. While we have a strong brand identity, our team keeps open lines of communication with distribution partners and regularly updates our brand guidelines. We listen, iterate, and implement changes quickly.
What strategies do you employ to adapt to changes and trends in the industry while staying true to your company's values?
We focus on sticking to our core: portable, user-friendly red light therapy devices. We don’t get distracted by gimmicks. Instead, we align each product with our mission to make RLT accessible, effective, and consistent.
Can you share a memorable client success story that exemplifies your company's approach and impact?
A defining moment was when Lumaflex was integrated into ambulance protocols across parts of the EU. That, along with interest from military medical units, showed us the practical impact we could make on the frontlines of care. It was exactly the kind of real-world use we envisioned when we started.
In what ways do you invest in the professional development and growth of your team members?
From day one, I share the vision that each team member can lead their department in the future. We structure roles to allow growth into leadership and management positions, and everyone is encouraged to build the roadmap for the next person to follow.
How do you approach sustainability and ethical practices within your company's operations and projects?
We take sustainability seriously. Lumaflex is BeCorp certified, and we’ve built rigorous manufacturing protocols with global compliance in mind. Every product is made with recyclable materials and minimal environmental impact.
Can you discuss a time when your company had to pivot or innovate in response to unforeseen challenges, and what lessons did you learn from that experience?
Our pivot came when we realized we needed a more affordable, retail-friendly product. Within a year of launching our premium model, we developed and released our Essential model to reach a wider audience. It taught us the value of listening to market needs and responding quickly.

Do you have any websites, books or resources that you would recommend?
The most valuable resource has been conversations with scientists and medical professionals who dedicate their lives to photobiomodulation. Their insights have shaped our understanding and product development more than any book or course could.
