ABOUT
BBC Academy is a training and development resource which aims to provide insight
and best practice across three main areas of broadcast: Journalism, Production and
Technology.
The task here was not only to completely rethink and redesign how the Academy site
looked and functioned but to also to re-imagine the entire structure and navigation of
the site - with a view to unify content across the three disciplinary pillars of broadcast.
The challenges that were introduced came from not only attempting to create a
unifrom design for content which is delivered across a varied range of multimedia
formats (articles, podcasts, videos etc.) but to also deliver that content to an entirely
varied audience of user groups - all with entirely different outcome requirements - in a
way that is compatible with a huge range of screen resolutions and mobile devices.
My involvement in this project was to act as the main UXD end to end, from the first
kickoff workshop through to handoff to development. As such I oversaw and carried
out the following: Audit and analysis, user testing, content audit and strategy, information
architecture, navigation design, URL architecture and responsive design
wireframing.
