ABOUT
The images I have taken are a series called Maschito: Village of Time, This series is about a village in the mountains of Southern Italy called Maschito. The villiage is populated by just under one thousand people who are called Maschitans, The village dates back to the late 1400’s. The series is looking at how this small village is slowly disappearing along with the people who live in it.
My idea was formed when I travelled to Maschito with a friend whose father had grown up there in his early years of life. He told us stories of how the village used to be thriving with life and how now this is changing along with the world that we are living in.
I spent two weeks in the village of Maschito and with its people and it became very apparent to me that this village was slowly disappearing. The youth of the village are now moving away to bigger cities such a Naples and Milan. Due to the migration of the youth in the village, the elderly are left behind, slowly dying. I saw a relationship between the elderly people and the village itself and how the village was dying with the people. I wanted to document the people who lived in the village and the stories they had told me before it was too late and the village of Maschito had disappeared.
