ABOUT
This project is focused around my brother, Jason and his new life in Brighton. He has recently moved to Brighton to study Business at university, he has gone there knowing no one and facing the challenges of a new environment and new people surrounding him. Jason and me are extremely close, sharing the same friendship groups back at home and spend a lot of our time together undergoing the same activities and interests. Now that we do not live together we have entered into new friendship groups and new lives, which is what I have explored with this project.
The concept was to ask a number of Jason’s friends in Brighton to take me to a location that meant something to the both of them weather it was where they first met, somewhere they spend a lot of time together etc. I asked them to arrive wearing what ever they pleased I wanted to make sure they didn’t change the way they looked due to having their photograph take. They would then take me to the location where I would proceed to take the photograph. Whilst I was setting up the 5x4 Shan Hao camera I would try and keep them interested by talking to them about why they have chosen this specific location and how it relates to them and Jason. From these conversations that I had with my sitters I would take a quote that is used as the captions for each photograph that is in this series.
I chose to explore Jason’s life through his friends and not actually include him in this project as it gives an unbiased view into his new world, people and surrounding that I would not have been able to discover by focusing this project solely on him.
