ABOUT

‘Create a product/products that educate and promote a Japanese diet and lifestyle to the western world’ This self written brief is a result of my interests in book design, Asian art, ethical living and healthy eating. The book is designed to highlight Japanese traditions that, when incorporated into western life can lead to healthier and more ethical choices. I wanted to create something beautiful that also had meaning. I chose to use Ink marbling for the design as I was inspired by Japanese suminagashi. One of the things I like about Japanese design (especially modern design) is the quirkiness, I have tried to bring this style to the book through collage and the use of white space. After extensive research into the Japanese diet and lifestyle I picked what I felt was most relevant and what could realistically be incorporated into the western world. The final products are a limited edition style Cook/Lifestyle book, framed suminagashi prints with proverbs and a collection of home ware.
