Skate Nation Ghana celebrated the debut of skateboarding at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The film required a look that was as unique as its subjects, so the directors of photography adopted the tropes commonly seen in skate videos and took them to the next level. From MiniDV camcorders mounted on drones to fisheye lenses on high-end cameras to long-term exposure stop-motion sequences, the team created a cinematic tour de force that stayed true to the sport’s roots, the buzzing energy of Ghana’s capital, Accra, and its rising skateboarding culture in a fresh way.
