ABOUT
Concept: Reinventing a plain, anonymous cardboard cut into an original artwork inspired by the theatre world.
Execution/Results: Ancient Greek tragedy can be read as a sophisticated, highly stylized form of coping. More than just performance, it builds upon the philosophical assumption of reality as the site of struggle between free will and fate. In such a scenario, agony and sorrow are the inescapable terms against which the tragic hero measures his strength and determination for the common good. Jus think of Sophocles' iconic character of Oedipus, embarking on a self-destructive crime investigation to free the Corinthians from the coils of an epidemic spread. Drawing parallelism between Greek tragedy and the turbulent time of ours, a set of cut out masks are designed to cast the horror of history into aesthetic form. A tribute to great Greek playwriters, whose unparalleled social commitment and sense of responsibility may be of reminding to us in the darkest hour.
