About me
I am a graduate student from Sheffield Hallam University's BA Hons Fashion Design course, in search of a full-time Fashion Design job. As a creative, hardworking, and self-motivated fashion graduate that is adaptable and quick to learn, I am now looking forward to utilising the skills that I have developed, and I feel eager to advance my career.
I am currently working as a fashion design assistant intern, working closely alongside the designer Jucelyne Nhanro, assisting in developing the AW24 collection for her upcoming fashion label JÚ. This role is allowing me to practice and improve the skills that I learned throughout my fashion design degree, such as translating the design vision and concept into physical form through sketches, patterns, and samples/prototypes, draping garments, and drawing accurate patterns to fit the required sizing ready to send off to the tailors. After this, I will be constructing a selection of the final garments and then assisting with the styling and accessories for each look, in addition to inspecting the finished looks and packaging ready for an independent catwalk and photoshoot. I am working as part of a close-knit team in a pressurised, fast-paced environment, so collaboration and communication are key to meeting deadlines and working effectively. This internship has allowed me to develop strong communication and teamwork skills and has been a fantastic start to my career in fashion, giving me the confidence to move forward into my next chapter.
With my experience as a retail childrenswear girls section specialist in a large NEXT PLC store, I was able to gain valuable experience in the range planning for each seasonal phase change and visual merchandising within the childrenswear department. This experience has given me a deep understanding of customer preferences and the ability to translate trends into marketable fashion displays for the NEXT customer. This gave me the capability to interpret a company's vision and fashion brief, to deliver the correct visuals for the brand for each season. This position also involved taking a lead role in selecting the new stock for the shop floor, dressing departmental mannequins, producing displays, and managing the marketing imagery for each phase change. My role at NEXT has given me the ability to confidently understand creative direction and concepts, which will be a great asset to bring to a design team position.
I have studied fashion for 10 years and have enjoyed my entire creative journey; I am now looking forward to utilising the skills that I have developed, and I feel eager to start my career in the fashion industry. I am a self-motivator with great resilience and enjoy seeing a project develop from initial concept through to the end. I am proud to share that my final collection during my BA Hons in Fashion Design at Sheffield Hallam was selected by Graduate Fashion Week, to be included in their London catwalk show in 2022. This achievement not only demonstrates my creativity but also my ability to create designs that stand out in a competitive industry. Furthermore, my fashion portfolio was selected for both the Graduate Fashion Week and British Fashion Council's websites, showcasing my attention to detail and ability to present my work professionally.
