ABOUT
Concept
To mark the Lunar New Year — and the Year of the Horse — we saw an opportunity to do more than celebrate a cultural moment.
We set out to make Lloyds’ most iconic asset — the black horse — feel relevant, desirable and culturally present in a way it never had before.
The idea was simple but powerful: take a centuries-old brand icon and reimagine it as a modern expression of celebration, generosity and good fortune, connecting Lloyds to one of the world’s most meaningful cultural moments.
Execution
We brought the idea to life through an integrated Lunar New Year activation anchored around 18 February celebrations.
At the heart was the creation of the highly covetable Lloyds Horse plushie — a tactile, collectable reimagining of the brand, designed to feel premium, desirable and shareable.
This was supported by:
• A culturally resonant Soho pop-up experience, creating a physical destination for celebration and engagement
• A broader social and content strategy designed to drive anticipation, desirability and cultural relevance
• A design approach that fused Lloyds’ distinctive assets with Lunar New Year symbolism, creating something both authentic and ownable
The result was a campaign that moved beyond traditional banking comms — placing Lloyds inside culture, not just alongside it.
Results
The campaign transformed the Lloyds horse from a passive brand asset into an active cultural icon.
• The plushie became a highly sought-after item, creating tangible brand demand; creating a ‘block buster’ queue into the store for when the doors opened
• Delivered strong social engagement and organic amplification, driven by shareability and collectability
• Positioned Lloyds as a brand capable of showing up meaningfully in cultural moments, not just financial ones
• Reinforced the emotional dimension of “Bank on Lloyds” — connecting the brand to celebration, optimism and personal progress
By reimagining its most famous asset through the lens of culture, Lloyds demonstrated that even the most established brands can create new meaning, relevance and desire in entirely unexpected ways.
