About me

Dear Sir / Madame,

I am writing in response to the advertised position of Publishing Foreign Sales Assistant, as listed by Bonnier Publishing.

I am not merely looking to start a career in publishing - I am looking to bring my employer the most dedication I can give and the best work possible. Publishing is not just a career to me, it is the path that I have always desired to be on, and one that is at the core of my personal as well as my professional interests.

With my previous internships and editorial experience, I know that I have the skills necessary to contribute to your team's work in a positive manner, alongside my deep interest in effective communication and innovative information distribution in publishing.

In my most recent role as a MacMillan Editorial Assistant for Nature's online Open Access Scientific Reports journal, I demonstrated a natural ability and deep-seated passion for work in the publishing world. Tasked daily with the initial quality review of manuscripts in their first stage, I spent my time communicating with authors and managing quality assurance in Macmillan's busy office setting in the heart of London. Though the volume of manuscripts which were sorted was in the hundreds, I sought to give each of them my full attention in their turn and to provide our authors with the highest calibre of editorial assessment and professional insight that the market can offer. As such, I have proven to be a dedicated and dependable part of the publishing world.

My past roles have been focused on social sciences and political issues, but I have never strayed far from editorial work and the written word. As an intern for the Coalition for the International Criminal Court and at the Canadian Parliament, I completed and managed key research, using Excel, SPSS, and Raiser's Edge for database management and entry. From constructing press releases for the CICC's website, to drafting and editing letters to government representatives across the globe, my passion for information grew stronger, as did my keen eye for detail. My work in translating documents between English and Spanish also allowed me to use my broad language skills to improve my quick thinking and adaptability as I explored editing. As a student, I served as a Research Assistant within the Political Science Department of the Ohio State University, where I mastered the use of various database platforms, such as Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Office, and the fundamentals of JavaScript and HTML.

I would greatly welcome the opportunity to further explain and discuss how I can combine my passion for publishing, as well my editorial skills, to be a valuable addition to your team in an interview.

Yours Faithfully,

Lisette Holford
