ABOUT

A collective that explores chosen Archives and responds to them in any format. The responses are documented, sent out to fellow collectives, and the responses from them are presented in an exhibition, as well as documented in a publication.
The projects are held annually and open for up to 10 collectives to collaborate in. This years collective was based on the Peter Farrer archive available in the John Moores Aldham Roberts library.
I responded to a double page spread from ‘The Bizarre Review’ which was all about different way in which a person could gag a woman. I did this by looking at different ways women have been silenced through out time. One thing that kept cropping up in my research was the execution of women who spoke up for their’s and other women’s rights. I felt this was relevant and current in todays society, the #MeToo movement highlights how many women have been silenced for speaking out about sexual abuse and misconduct in many different industries. I decided to look at women who lost their lives for speaking up for what they believe in and play with the fact that they were permanently silenced in a sense. But at the same time paying homage to these women and giving them the recognition they deserve.
