Valentine’s Day saw the launch of a new campaign for Freeview. Created by Leo Burnett London, ‘catandbudgie’ brings to life the thought that entertainment is even better when it’s free. It opens on a household cat that can’t seem to take his eyes off a budgie that is happily located in the corner of the room in her cage. All looks bad for the bird when the cat stalks his way across the sitting room, extends a paw and opens the cage door, but all isn’t necessarily as it seems…

In an exclusive deal with Channel 4, the ad was unveiled on Friday 14th February during episode two of Peter Kay: Live & Back on Nights! on Channel 4 and was simulcast across E4, More4 and Film 4.

The film was written and art directed by Phillip Meyler and Darren Keff of Leo Burnett and directed by Ne-O through Stink with Post-production by Glassworks. Media buying agency MEC brokered the deal with Channel 4 Sales.

Guy North, Marketing Communications Director, Freeview said: “With this campaign we want to show consumers just how brilliant entertainment that is free can be. Since we released the cat and budgie teaser film earlier this week people have been guessing the fate of our animal duo on Twitter and Facebook. They will be in for a surprise tonight."
