ABOUT

The wonderful team from Erasmus University Rotterdam & Rotterdam School of Management reached out to me to help them illustrate their annual winter greeting email for their 160,000 alumni.

BRIEF:
For this holiday season, they wanted a greeting card with a double function: as an end of the year greeting card, and as a request for fundraising. The illustration had to give a positive and thoughtful mood around the theme of ‘people supporting each other’, and to communicate solidarity towards the charities they could give back, or they have the most affiliation with. The choices were: helping students who are affected by the war in Ukraine, and to support a research to predict and prevent dementia more effectively. The chosen colour palette had to include or combine with the dark blue and dark green brand colours.

EXECUTION:
I created a series of characters of diverse backgrounds and nationalities with happy faces, hugging each other, and joining hands as a gesture of support. The outfits are colourful and have bold patterns to spread a positive vibe and mood. They are surrounded by dutch elements such as colourful tulips, a representative section of the University building, Christmas ornaments and graphics depicting the 2 charities the Alumni could fund: Supporting Ukrainian students affected by the war, and research to prevent dementia.

RESULT:
The combination of the vibrant colours, happy and supportive attitude of the characters, and the surrounding graphic elements create a positive mood with a thoughtful side that's suggested by the graphics about dementia and Ukraine.
