ABOUT
The Challenge
The Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Fest, a month-long celebration marking 50 years of the country’s independence, required a visually compelling and cohesive brand identity to effectively communicate the cultural richness of Trinidad and Tobago. The event, held during the London 2012 Olympic Games, had to appeal to a diverse audience, including diplomatic circles and the general public, while showcasing aspects of the country’s culture, such as dance, drama, literature, cuisine, and music. The challenge was to create a visual identity that encapsulated the vibrancy and diversity of Trinidad and Tobago, while managing the production of various promotional materials.
The Strategy
The strategy was to develop a unified visual identity that reflected the essence of Trinidad and Tobago’s culture and history. This identity needed to be applied across a wide range of branded collateral for the festival, including both printed materials and digital assets. The aim was to create engaging, culturally representative designs that would not only attract attendees but also reinforce the importance of this celebration during the Olympic Games.
The Execution
As a member of the planning committee and responsible for the creative direction, I led the design and production of all key event materials. These included "Save the Date" notices, event flyers, brochures, accreditation passes, souvenir postcards, bookmarks, invitations for the grand opening and diplomatic events, event programmes, posters, ad hoc signage, and web banners. Each design was crafted to reflect the colours, culture, and spirit of Trinidad and Tobago. Working closely with the High Commission, I ensured that all collateral met the highest standards and successfully captured the essence of the country’s heritage.
The Outcome
The cultural festival received widespread promotion and was well-attended, with significant visibility within UK diplomatic circles and the general public. The branded collateral successfully conveyed the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago and was instrumental in increasing awareness of the festival. The visual identity and collateral played a key role in promoting the event and engaging attendees, ensuring that the cultural celebration was well-received and memorable.
