ABOUT
The Challenge
St John the Baptist, Catford, aimed to launch a new church initiative that would attract a younger congregation by offering a relaxed, informal service distinct from the traditional morning service. The service would be held on Sundays at 4 pm and cater to all ages, with a focus on worship songs, prayers, and teaching. The challenge was to create a visual identity that communicated the fresh, modern approach of the initiative while appealing to the target audience, all within a tight budget and deadline.
The Strategy
The strategy focused on designing a logo and visual identity that reflected the informal, inclusive, and contemporary nature of the new service. The goal was to ensure the branding stood out from other church initiatives in the area, while maintaining a connection to the core values of the church. I aimed to create a modern and clean look that would resonate with a younger audience while also being versatile enough to work across various platforms and promotional materials.
The Execution
I facilitated a discovery workshop to understand the vision for the new initiative and the values the church wanted to convey. Based on the insights gathered, I created a logo that was simple, modern, and aligned with the new direction of the project. The logo's simplicity allowed it to be distinctive and memorable, while also fitting the informal and relaxed nature of the service. I also designed the brand assets and digital materials, ensuring they were cohesive and aligned with the church's new initiative.
The Outcome
The logo and visual identity were well-received, successfully capturing the essence of the church's new direction. The modern and simple design allowed the initiative to stand out from other church projects in the area, while also appealing to the younger congregation. The visual identity has since become a key asset in promoting the initiative, helping to establish a strong brand presence and attracting new attendees to the service.
