ABOUT

This kinetic typography piece was inspired by Two Door Cinema Club’s energetic track Undercover Martin. As a longtime fan of the band, having grown up attending their gigs locally in Ireland, I wanted to channel my appreciation for their music into a creative, fast-paced motion design project. The goal was to reflect the upbeat tempo and vibrant personality of the song through bold visuals and dynamic animation.

What started as a passion project quickly evolved into a detailed and refined piece, designed to push my skills in motion graphics, timing, and hand-drawn illustration.

The piece was entirely designed and animated by me, with a strong focus on precise keyframing to keep pace with the rhythm and beats of the track. Every transition was timed to the audio, ensuring a seamless relationship between sound and motion.

I hand-illustrated all the icons and symbols featured in the animation, giving the piece a personal, custom look that felt true to both the band’s identity and my own design style. The visual language is bold, vibrant, and playful, echoing the song’s energy while showcasing my strengths in motion design and Adobe After Effects.

Typography choices were carefully considered to match the tone of the track, while colour palettes and movement were driven by a desire to create something lively, youthful, and visually memorable.

Though created independently, the project was highly praised by senior faculty members at Ulster University’s BSc Interactive Media course for its technical precision and visual creativity.

It served not only as a showcase of my kinetic typography skills, but also as a testament to my technical ability to creatively interpret music and produce polished, engaging work from concept to execution. It continues to be one of my standout portfolio pieces, demonstrating both my motion design capabilities and personal creative voice.
