About me

To whom it may concern,

Hello, my name is Laura Geraghty and I am a graphic designer currently based in Dublin, Ireland. I am responding to your job posting on the Creative Pool website for a Graphic Designer.

In 2008 I graduated from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in Dublin with a 2.1 (hons) degree in Visual Communications. Since graduating I have completed a part-time course in 3D Studio Max, which was certified by City & Guilds. I have an advanced knowledge of the Adobe Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, After Effects & Premiere.

For the past two years I have been working as a graphic designer for Kinetic, an outdoor advertising specialist in Ballsbridge, Dublin. Our clients include Sky Ireland among others such as Unilever, Audi, Jameson, Heineken & AXA. My job role involves print, digital & video design. I lead the 'Create' department in Kinetic which is responsible for generating new innovations and design for the outdoor advertising market in both the North and South of Ireland.

Previous to that I worked in the magazine industry. I worked for Harmonia, the leading publishing house in Ireland, on titles such as Irish Tatler, U magazine, Auto Ireland and Food & Wine. I was the artistic director of a wedding magazine called The Wedding Bible, where I was responsible for everything from its layout to working with clients to design their adverts. Therefore I am very familiar with working in layout and presentation. I'm used to tight deadlines, communicating with clients and colleagues, attention to detail and being organised.

For one of my two projects for my degree show I designed, illustrated and wrote an Irish children's picture book. An Gúm, the Irish language publishers, published my book in August 2009. I have just finished my second book, An Bhean Sí.

I have also worked on freelance projects - one of the most recent being the 2011 Wedding stamp for An Post, the Irish postal service.

What caught my eye about your job posting was that it combined two of my favourite things - Formula 1 and graphic design. The title of my thesis in college was - 'The fastest moving billboards in the world - A study of Visual Imagery in Formula 1'. I did great research into design in F1 from the Ferrari logo to the 'Benson & Hedges' Jordan cars to the merchandise and clothing worn by the pit girls at the Grand Prix.

I also have an online portfolio - *

Although I am currently living in Dublin I would be willing to relocate to London.

If you have any questions or if you would like to see more of my work please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Laura
