ABOUT

More than 3 out of 4 women have been verbally harassed on the internet. And it gets worse if you are in a position of leadership. Amnesty International estimates that female politicians and journalists in the US received “problematic” and “abusive” tweets every 30 seconds. That’s over 1.1 million over a year – vastly more than any male leader receives over a lifetime.

This forms part of much wider, political problem. In 2019, 85% of boardrooms are still male. 78% of parliamentarians are male. Only 17% of government ministers are women.

These facts tell us something critical: power is broken. And real change demands provocateurs.

Introducing, The Pulse

The Pulse is a dynamic, data-responsive graphic, with an algorithm that tracks over 10,000 real-time conversations on Twitter. It reacts to six key topics: Power, Success, Community, Diversity, Change and Leadership. These are also WPLs values.

Each topic has a unique form within the graphic. It grows as a topic trends, which draws user to focus on that specific issue. Its colour also changes, reflecting the positive or negative sentiment driving the discussion.

Viewed over time, The Pulse reveals the shifting currents of the grassroots, global debate surrounding women in power. At any moment, the viewer can take a snapshot of the conversation and view the individual Tweets that comprise it.
