About me

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to be considered for the role of copywriter at Octopus Group, as advertised on .

I am currently employed by Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and am the chief reporter for the Women's First team, who play in the FA Women's Premier League. My job requires me to write on-the-whistle match reports ready for immediate upload, tweet live updates during games on the club's official Twitter account, interview players and managers postgame, and write feature articles for the matchday programme.

I graduated from the University of Brighton's Bachelor of Arts Honours Sport Journalism degree in July and am looking to kick-start my career in the media sector.

During my time at University I embarked on several work placements, one of which was a national newspaper, and another a local one. Thus, a busy working environment is no longer foreign territory to me. The goal at GiveMeSport, another work placement, was to entice as many readers to click and share posts from social media as possible and so my knowledge of utilising Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc. to share content and grasp what is popular/trending was enhanced.

In December 2015 I underwent training in social media marketing at SCS Marketing in Eastbourne. I learnt how to use Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, and Instagram Ads, and was taught how to correctly market a business on social media, network, and produce content for a specific target audience.

I believe my writing skills, ability to create content for a specific audience, adaptability, and tech-savviness would assist the team with ongoing projects. And my creativity would contribute to ideas for future ventures.

While my degree specified in sport, the lecturers were very keen to ensure we did not limit ourselves to writing about and focusing on one area of journalism. We were taught writing, reporting, researching and broadcasting techniques that can be utilised in almost any aspect of the industry.

And even though I currently live in Eastbourne, East Sussex, I am more than happy to relocate in order to aid my career.

My passion for the industry means that work would never be a chore, while the skills I have obtained in the last three years would mean that my work would always be professional and on time. And my hard working personality would ensure I am always willing to improve. Therefore, I would be hugely grateful to be considered for an interview.

Yours sincerely,

Kyle Speirs
