ABOUT
This project was an opportunity to distill design to its most essential form. Pixels! We have often worked at large scales with high resolution, but stepping into the world of 16-bit pixels was a unique shift. It forced us to rethink everything, focusing on the craft behind every detail. There is something special about the simplicity of pixel art, it is a challenge to evoke depth and energy with so little.
Capturing the sensation of 322kph within a pixel world presented its own challenges. We had to carefully consider every element of motion, scale, and feedback. Each decision was deliberate, if it did not enhance the feeling of the race, it was not included.
We also wanted the game to be universally accessible. Ensuring it worked across desktop and mobile meant everything had to be responsive, adaptable, and flexible, without compromising on the quality of the experience.
Building this was a rewarding process. It pushed us in ways that made the final result something we are incredibly proud of.
The Nissan racers even sported our 16-Bit designed livery on the racetrack at the Toyko E-Prix in May.
