The Coal Mine is a new independent theatre in Toronto’s East End. I had the opportunity to design the company's new logo and posters for the past four seasons.

The logo concept is based on an allusion to caged canaries that miners would carry down into the mine tunnels with them. If dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide collected in the mine, the gases would kill the canary before killing the miners, thus providing a warning to exit the tunnels immediately. Just like a new play where you have no idea to predict its success.
