The Magic Sponsor (O Padrinho Mágico)
This is an unpublished picturebook based on a free interpretation of an popular story registered by the Brazilian folklorist named Luis da Câmara Cascudo. I used the cut-out technique to kind-of animate the book.
The drawing technique was colored pencil. I used only two colors and mixed them to create a third one.
Above a little bit of the conception process of the cut-out pages and illustrations. 
This book is one of six illustrated versions of the same text. I made them as part of my PhD Studio Art Thesis in Drawing/Illustration (Fine Arts Faculty of University of Lisbon). Each one of them I used a constraint adapted from OuBaPo (acronym of Ouvroir de Bande Dessinée Potentielle, a group that uses constraints as creative process). 
I like to create my own lettering also, therefore I studied some Arabic fonts to create all the lettering in the book cover and to reenforce the 1001 Nights mood.
